A year has passed...

As you can see it has been awhile since we have updated this blog. It has almost been a year now. Wow. A lot happened in that year. Especially with me (Holly). I successfully finished my first year of college, and I loved every minute of it. Bob Jones is a great place. I made many wonderful friends,and learned a lot in the process. I learned about people, about business, and most importantly I learned how faithful God is to us when we are walking in his will. It is truly amazing how God will help you when you are trying to live a life for Him. I found this out in little ways this past year. At 1am when I was studying for a test, or waking up early to practice a speech (on 4 hours of sleep). God places people around us to encourage us, to support us, and to guide us in the paths of life. I am thankful for this past year, and for all that God has blessed me with. I know many of you probably don't even keep up with this blog anymore. Since it is what Katie and I call "dead". lol. But I wanted to let you all know that we are both doing great. I have tried to get Katie to keep up with the blog, but she just doesn't seem to find the time either. Who knows, maybe I'll get back to blogging, or maybe not. Either way I hope all of our blogging buddies are doing good. God Bless, ~Holly~

Hello to all of our blogger friends! We thought that it was about time to make a blog post before you all think we have disappeared!! :) Well, in truthfulness I guess we have disappeared from the blogoshere. To be honest we haven't had the blogging spirit lately. ): Maybe it's all of the changes we have been and still are going through. Katie will be going into her junior year of high school (home school) this year. Which is a pretty big step in its self. Since I have graduated I now look back and realize just how important those last two years of high school really are. Next week I will begin a new phase in my life. College. I will be attending Bob Jones University. I am really looking forward to it. I know that it want be easy. Nothing worthwhile ever is. However, in the end I feel that a college experience at BJU will not only be beneficial academically but also spiritually. Katie and I both are looking forward to this coming school year. As you can imagine we probably want have much time to blog,but when we do find the time one of us will try to update you on our lives.

Hello to all of our blogger friends!! We hope you all are having a great summer!

It has been really hot here,and to think that it isn't even technically summer yet! (=

I went to the DMV yesterday and got my driver's license. I don't know why I waited so long to get them. I guess it's just because I am always with my parents and they always drive us anywhere we need to go. When I found out that I was going to be a town student this fall I knew that I would need to drive to and from school each day,so a driver's license was pretty much a necessity! (: We have been going to the pool quite often, about every other day. We also been baby sitting our Aunt (Mom's little sister) Gracie. She is so sweet! We are having tons of fun with her! (= Well, that is what we have been doing lately. We miss hearing from you all. We are defiantly going to have to try to post more often!!

Hi everyone! We have been really busy with school this week. We're really looking forward to summer break! My (Holly's) high school graduation is coming up on May 22nd. We have been getting everything together for that. Which has been fun! Our camera has been lost for a couple of weeks now and we just found it yesterday so we should be getting back into the swing of taking and posting pictures soon! Meanwhile, here is my senior picture. I was happy with the way it turned out. Daddy did a great job! I was able to order my cap,gown and invitations from a company that specializes in providing home school graduation gear. I an very pleased with everything that I purchased from them.

Hi everyone. We finally have found the time to make a post!

We have been keeping busy with eveyday things. School,chores,errands etc.

We attented our neighbor that passed aways funeral Friday.

We were reminded of the everlasting love and peace that God gives to us

who are his children in times such as these.

Please continue to pray for this family as they grieve for their son.

Tragedy

Hi. We just wanted to make a quick post to ask you all to pray for a kind family in our neighborhood. We learned last night that their 18 year old son was tragically killed yesterday evening. Although we did not personally know him, we did see him some times when we walked around the neighborhood and he seemed like a nice guy. We, along with the rest of our neighbor's feel very saddened about the situation. When we look out our front windows and see this family's home it is hard for us to imagine what his parents and sister must be going through. Please keep the Jaramillo family in your prayers. Thank you all!

We had a very busy one, hince our lack

of blogging.Our Grandpa came down from Maryland to visit and

attend a wedding in the family. He left yesterday.

So, now it's back to normal. School,chores, etc.

Hello! We hope you all are having a great Easter weekend! We went to Bob Jones University Friday night for their 12th annual living gallery program (an extraordinary presentation that weaves together art, music, and drama. Striking re-creations of artistic masterpieces are brought to life by real people in unique “living pictures.)The title of the presentation was "Behold Your King". It was really nice. We had a great time. The recently renovated Rodeheaver Auditorium. Us, Mom and Travis ( a friend from BJ) Happy Easter!

Spring Cleaning

We have been doing a lot of our spring cleaning the past couple of days.

Yesterday we moved all of the beds and vacuumed underneath them and rearranged shoes etc.

Aside from that I got all of the floors mopped and everything wiped down.

Now, I have to go polish and vacuum everything.

We also got some painting done yesterday. The baseboards, scratches etc.

So, that's what we have been doing.

..of spring cleaning! lol That may sounds weird to some of you but believe it or not we actually enjoy cleaning! ( or at least Holly does..lol) (0: Yesterday Katie and I cleaned all of the carpet in our house. After hours of scrubbing,spraying and sucking up carpet cleaner the carpet looks new again! It really wasn't that bad to begin with since I (Holly) vacuum constantly. However, It does make you feel good to wake up and with the house smelling like new. So, Have you all started your spring cleaning yet? It isn't really a big deal around here since we "spring clean" at least once a week but there are those things like switching seasonal clothes,cleaning carpets,pressure washing, and such that we look forward to doing in the spring time... (:

Hi! So all of the snow is gone now lol

It seems as though we were posting nothing but

snow pictures there for awhile!

Now everything is back to normal..

No more slushy mess.

Although it was nice to get a taste of winter weather!

The wonderful blessings of spring time are appearing now

and it is so nice! We noticed that some of our Daffodils

have bloomed. They are so pretty. The tulips should be

coming up pretty soon too. We can't wait! (:

After finishing school today Katie and I enjoyed a nice afternoon of

washing the car and just taking in the beautiful day.

In reference to our last post we wanted to let you all know that we did get plenty of snow! Right now we have around 4 to 5 1/2 inches and it is still coming down hard. It is very beautiful out our windows!

We have taken tons of pictures so we should be posting those soon!

Our lights are flickering as I type!! yikes I hope the power doesn't go out!!

Well maybe our weekend isn't going to be so busy after all! lol...It has rained for two straight days! And it doesn't look like it's stopping anytime soon.(Which by the way we aren't complaining because we are still in a pretty bad drought here in SC). The weather forecast looks as if we may get some winter weather.Possibly 6 inches. That's a little to unbelievable since last night the temperature in our bonus room was around 75 degrees! However, it does seem to be getting colder really fast so..maybe we will get some snow/sleet. Who knows!? Anyway hope you all are having a great weekend! Is it rainy/snowy where you are?

Hello everyone! We hope that you all are doing well and have had a great week so far! We have had a nice busy week. Hince our lack of blogging! lol. Truth be told we don't like for our blog to ever be "dead" but I guess that's just one of those things that you can't really help sometimes.

Here are a few pictures we took of Harley on Valentines Day. She seemed fascinated by the smell of roses! Isn't that cute! (;

Monday we went for a second tour of Bob Jones University. We were all very impressed. Lord willing,I will be starting my freshman year there this coming fall. I plan to major in Administrative Management (which will soon be Bussiness and Technology) and as a minor I am thinking about Economics.

..for the ACT. That's what I (Holly) have been busy with this past week and the weeks before..lol. But more so this week, since the actual test is Saturday morning!

I'm nervous. I honestly can't imagine anyone not being

nervous about something like this! (:

I took the ACT last year (my junior year).

My score was average and I could have went on to college then,

However, I wanted to take it again this year to up my score.

Hopefully for scholarships!

And Katie, she's been busy with her school work as well.

Rainy days=Chocolate cake!

Again today it has been a rainy,cloudy day. One thing is for sure that when it's raining and we can't go outdoors, the kitchen is in full use! lol Today after lunch as part of Home Economics we made a chocolate cake from scratch to satisfy that terrible cocoa craving.. (:

Here is the recipe:

Lickity-Split Cocoa Cake Perfect when you need a homemade chocolate cake-in a hurry. (: 1 1/2 cups unsifted all-purpose flour 1 cup sugar 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup water 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 tablespoon vinegar 1 teaspoon vanilla Combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt in large mixing bowl. Add water, oil, vinegar and vanilla; stir with spoon or wire whisk just until batter is smooth and ingredients are well blended. Pour into greased and floured 9-inch layer pan or 8-inch square pan. Bake at 350º for 35 to 40 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean. Cool in pan; frost as desired. 6 to 8 servings.

This is one that we have made for years.

It's easy,fast,and oh so good with a glass of cold milk!

As far as the icing goes,we just use your basic chocolate glaze recipe.We usually double it so that the cake stays nice and moist.

It has been one of those chilly,rainy days here.

Perfect weather for staying in the warm,cozy house reading a good book! (:

We went to the library a few days ago and checked us out a few books.

I got three,but only one is interesting.. the other two were

ACT study guides ...oh the joy! lol

The book that I am leisurely reading is one of Beverly Lewis' entitled The Revelation.

I'm only on chapter eight but it seems like it's going to be good. I have

read a few of her books before and I really liked them.

Katie is reading Amelia's War by Ann Rinaldi.

I have read this one also. It is a really good book. Katie says that she is enjoying it.

Hi! Hope you all are having a great Friday!

We just got finished with school for the week. (:

We clean everyday here,including vacuuming,dusting and mopping several times a week, but Fridays are our "big" chore days in which we change bed sheets,

vacuum carpets,polish furniture,scrub bathrooms,wash,dry,fold and put away all laundry,wipe everything off,clean appliances (microwave,refrigerator) and mop etc.. and oh yes,we give Harley her weekly spa treatments! (bathing) lol (; on Fridays!

Just so you know,that's all we will be doing this evening!

Or should I say I will be doing this evening ... I(Holly) actually like

doing chores..(more than Katie) I love spending the evening/night

cleaning and then waking up to a sparkly clean house! lol

Hair straightening

Hi everyone! We hope you all have had a great week!

A few days ago Katie helped be straghten my hair with a straightener that we

bought recently. It worked really well. I have used straighteners in the past

but I found that this one has worked the best.

It's a Remmington Wet 2 Straight.

It sure took awhile since my hair has gotten a lot longer and consist of several layers!

Luscious Hot Chocolate

Here is the hot chocolate recipe that I was talking about in the last post.

(We found it in a magazine)

Luscious Hot Chocolate.

12 oz. Semi-sweet chocolate chips.

8 cups. Milk.

1.Combine chocolate and milk in a heavy saucepan.

Place over medium heat until bubbles form,reduce

the heat slightly,and simmer until the chocolate melts,

whisking constantly.

2.Before serving,raise the heat until the chocolate just boils,still

whisking. Enjoy!

Hello everyone! Hope you all are having a great week!

We wanted to share this wonderful hymn with you all today.

It is one of our favorites.

This hymn was written after several traumatic events in Horatio Spafford’s life. The first was the death of his only son in 1871, shortly followed by the great Chicago Fire which ruined him financially (he had been a successful lawyer). Then in 1873, he had planned to travel to Europe with his family, but sent the family ahead while he was delayed on business. While crossing the Atlantic, the ship sank rapidly after a collision with another ship, and all four of Spafford's daughters died. His wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, "Saved alone." Shortly afterwards, as Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, he was inspired to write these words as his ship passed near where his daughters had died.

To think of the dreadful trials in which Spafford had been faced with and how through

those trials he demonstrated his strong faith in Christ,It is truly a statement to how we as Christian should live.

This song is truly a testament to the faith!

Hi,We hope you all are having a great weekend! A few days ago Katie and I noticed a particular web address link kept showing up on our site meter,when we visited the site we found that one of our blog post had been 'highlighted' by an Editor. We found that pretty interesting.

Here is part of the the Editor's post,entitled "Sweet and Sour"..thankfully we fell under the sweet part.lol. Not to say that we totally agree with everything that the Editor said here,that's just natural you know! But, after all that's an Editor's job.

All and all we thought this review rewarding.

The first blog I'm highlighting is in the "sweet" category. I admit, I found the music that automatically plays on their site annoying and the graphic of falling snowflakes distracting, but then I saw that the authors were two teenage girls so I gave them a pass. The blog is written by two home-schooled sisters in South Carolina and one of their recent posts details a recent visit to an Old Order Mennonite community in southern Maryland. I found this post fascinating on many levels. They have some great photos, their observations are wise beyond their years, and I just, in general, find the Old Order Mennonites a fascinating group. They are much smaller in number and, therefore much less anthropologically studied than the Amish. And the fact that this community is in southern Maryland makes it all the more interesting to me - Old Order Mennonites infused with a bit of southern customs. I found the sisters' reference to a "Thanksgiving Day church service" intriguing and wish they would have given a bit more information. But all in all their blog post is an intriguing read.

Hi everyone! We hope that each of you had a great Christmas! We spent a nice relaxing day at home. We cooked dinner and just enjoyed being at home without having the worry of "being somewhere"! lol We have "went" so much this Holiday season. It was fun but tiring at the same time. The "going" is not all over yet though!

We are planning on visiting some relatives in the mountains of North Carolina tomorrow.We made them a homemade orange fruit cake.I am sure they will enjoy it.The cake made the kitchen smell SO good with all of the orange zest and juices going on. Our Christmas decorations are being taken down and stored away in the attic as I type. For some reason it is always nice to get back to "normal" in the sense of decor, when the time comes to take everything down. Not that we didn't enjoy it while it was there! (:

Just thought we'd update to let you all know what we've been up to.

Hi everyone! Sorry we haven't posted in awhile. The big reason why we haven't posted lately is that our camera is lost!! It's so nerve racking! We've looked everywhere we can think of but to no avail..it's yet to be found. ): I am sure it will show up some where. The good thing is that we think the last time we used it we were in the house so..hopefully that is the case and we will find it tucked away in a drawer. But in the mean time it's making us pretty sad that the Holiday's are here and we have yet to take pictures of our decor! And this weekend with all of the Christmas party's coming up what are we to do?! Pray that we find our camera soon or our blog could come down with a serious case of the blue's (from lack of posting)! lol

Mennonites and Scenes From Southern Maryland.

First, we thought it appropriate to provide a little info on the people we will talk about in this post. Old Order Mennonites are a branch of the Mennonite church. Although the term strictly refers to one particular group, it is often used to refer to those groups of Mennonites who practice a lifestyle without some elements of modern technology. Old Order Mennonites are similar to Old Order Amish, both in practice and theology. They have distinctive forms of dress, frequently drive horse buggies, and may not have electricity. (Our friends drive buggy's and have no electricity.) They also speak a form of German called Pennsylvania Dutch. From what Rachel said it's a mixture of high German and Dutch mixed with some english words as well. For them this is their first language. They will then learn English once they begin school,in First grade. The avoidance of technologies by Old Order Mennonites and Old Order Amish is based not on a belief that the technology is in some way evil, but over a concern for the nature of their communities. Community is important to a Mennonite, and a technology or practice is rejected if it would adversely affect it. This means that the prohibitions are not usually absolute; a Mennonite who would not dream of owning a car may therefore use a car or other modern transport if a pressing need arises. This basis also means that a Mennonite sees no contradiction in having electricity in their milking barn — since that is necessary to comply with regulations on milk cooling — but not in their house. Other aspects of Old Order Mennonite life are concerned with plainness. The concept of plainness dictates the distinctive dress of the Mennonite. Plain to a Mennonite is the opposite of showy or ostentatious, and is considered a virtue. It is based on the belief that a person's true worth does not lie in their clothes or appearance. It is this aspect of their beliefs that regulates the dress style, giving Mennonites their distinctive look with straw hats or bonnets, and plain dresses or pants. Some groups that allow ownership of cars require that they be black with no chrome or other decoration. okay now the pictures!!..

This was the first statue in the city. It is a replica of George Washington.

While on our way to MD we came upon another historical landmark..we were very happy since we all love history! This one in particular was the Birthplace of George Washington. The site is located on Pope's creek in Westmorland County, Virginia. We didn't have time to walk the trail since we were still in route to our destination but we did stop long enough to get a few pictures and look around

a bit.

Hello everyone! It seems like it's been forever since we have blogged!

We got back home from Maryland late Saturday night.

We have been and still are busy with getting everything back to normal along with

decorating for Christmas. We had a very nice trip.

We spent time with our Grandpa,visited a couple of days with

our old order Mennonite friends, that was really fun!

And then we went to Washington DC one day.

We took hundreds of pictures so now we are sorting through

them and we will try to post a few each day.

Hi everyone, We want to wish each of you a

very Happy Thanksgiving!

Although it is still a few days away we thought it best to go ahead

and post our last post for a while. We will be leaving for Maryland

late tomorrow. We are going to visit our Grandpa. We haven't seen him in

a while so it will be nice. Hopefully we'll get to visit with our Old Order

Mennonite friends as well.

Winter Weather

Hi,How is the weather where you all are? It is really cold here tonight. It's in the forecast to be that way for awhile. The signs of Winter are everywhere. From the almost bare trees to the bitter winds. I (Holly) have been dealing with an ear problem for the about a week now and today I finally realized that I needed to go to the Doctor.It turns out that I have a inner and outer ear infection in my right ear. I am on two different antibiotics. It still hurts terribly but, hopefully I will begin to feel better soon. We are planning on taking a trip to visit relatives for Thanksgiving so I really need to start feeling better! Hope you all are doing well!!

David Archuleta's First CD!

We always look forward to watching American Idol each season. This year was no different. It was the audition rounds when we first heard David perform. Ever since we have been huge fans. Yesterday he released his first album. We couldn't wait to get it. We haven't heard all of the songs yet, but so far it sounds great. Making us proud to be Archuleta fans!

Hi, How are you all? We had a busy weekend. On Friday we prepared for the big night ahead with tons of candy and a little baking. Katie made some festive cupcakes. They were really good!

We have ALOT of kids in our neighborhood. So we knew from past years that we were going to be busy passing out treat bags ! We gave out around 40 treat bags and a few pieces of spare candy. We were tired. But it was fun. Here are a few pictures...

Our Weekend

Hi, We hope you all had a nice weekend! We drove up to Brevard, NC to go to a fall festival they were having there. We were able to meet up with some of our relatives. The weather was so nice. We had a great time. And all of the fall colors seemed to be at their peak. Here are a few pictures.

Hi,How are you all? We are both doing great.It was such a beautiful Autumn day here today.

After school we accompanied our Mom to an appointment she had. We enjoyed the sunny drive to Tryon,NC. Here are a few pictures I took on our drive.

We have been busy with school and have not

really had anything much to tell.

The weather is feeling more like fall here.

It gets pretty chilly at night. Which we don't mind.

It's definitely a nice break from the hot summer we had.

College Tours Part 1.

Most of you are probably aware that I (Holly) am currently in my Senior Year of High school. As some of you already know this is a very important time in a students life. Not only academically but also in making such decisions as which college to attend?,Which major?,or even for some the main question might be: Should I attend college?. My Family and I have thought and prayed on this subject for along time now and I have come to the conclusion that yes,I do want to attend college simply as a means of furthering my education and hopefully enabling a secure future for myself. Of course it all depends on whether this is the Lords will for my life.

Right now we are in the first steps. Yesterday we went to tour the first college of choice

Bob Jones University. Here are a few pictures.

Entering the University. Students at BJU come from every state in the US and more than 50 different countries. The David Field House. We were very impressed with BJU. We plan on touring a few more colleges in the coming months. I would like to ask all of you to kindly keep My Family and I in your prayers as we make these important decisions.

~~~ Afterwards we took a tour of the Museum and Gallery on Campus. It houses more biblical artifacts than any other museum in the Western hemisphere. Second only to the Vatican. It was very interesting!

The first Columbus Day celebration was held in 1792, when New York City celebrated the 300th anniversary of his landing in the New World. In 1892, President Benjamin Harrison called upon the people of the United States to celebrate Columbus Day on the 400th

anniversary of the event. Some Italian-Americans observe Columbus Day as a celebration of their heritage, the first occasion being in New York City on October 12, 1866. Columbus Day was popularized as a holiday in the United States by a lawyer, a son of Genoese immigrants who came to California. During the 1850s, Genoese immigrants settled and built ranches along the Sierra Nevada foothills. As the gold ran out, these skilled "Cal-Italians", from the Apennines, were able to prosper as self-sufficient farmers in the Mediterranean climate of Northern California. San Francisco has the second oldest Columbus Day celebration, with Italians having commemorated it there since 1869. This lawyer then moved to Colorado, which had a population of Genoese miners, and where, in 1907, the first state-wide celebration was held. In 1934, at the behest of the Knights of Columbus (a Catholic fraternal service organization named for the voyager), Congress and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt set aside Columbus Day, October 12, as a Federal holiday. Since 1971, the holiday has been commemorated in the U.S. on the second Monday in October, the same day as Thanksgiving in neighboring Canada. Hi,We hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We are really looking forward to the start of the school week..Since we have the day off from school for Columbus Day! (: We really don't have much of a choice since our classes that are broadcasted live from BJU will not resume until Tuesday. Anyway,Here is a picture we took a few evenings ago. The picture does NOT do the sunset that evening justice! We started out for a walk and about half way around the neighborhood I realized I should have brought the camera along to capture the gorgeous Autumn sunset..Oh well,We did manage to catch the end of it. ~~~ ~Have a great week!

Archuleta 4 President!?...

LEHI Utah — "American Idol" star David Archuleta is bigger now than ever before

— literally. Covering 12 acres, Archuleta's likeness, along with the phrase "Archuleta 4 President," is cut into the cornfield at the 2008 Cornbelly's Corn Maze and Pumpkin Fest

located at Thanksgiving Point. During an election year, corn maze creator and The MAiZE founder, Brett Herbst, said his focus was initially turned to presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama. "We really thought of Obama and McCain at first, but everyone we talked to was sick of the candidates," Herbst said. "Then we said, 'Let's do Archuleta."' Herbst said they had to get permission from Archuleta's agent before going forward with the maze. Archuleta garnered more than 40 million votes while competing on "American Idol" earlier this year. Herbst said the corn maze was a good way to honor the Utah native's accomplishment. Maze visitors will have a chance to win an autographed copy of Archuleta's new self-titled album when it's released Nov. 11.

We have had a busy,fun-filled weekend. We haven't had much time on the computer in the past few days so here is a post dedicated to one day in our weekend. We will post pictures from Saturday in another post. Friday was Daddy's birthday. We went to the Annual Greek Festival here in Spartanburg. Instead of cake Daddy decided he would like doughnuts instead. So that evening we went to Krispy Kreme. We had a nice time. Happy Belated Birthday Daddy!
